Welcome to LA!
I’m officially living in LA now! I moved from Richmond, CA to live with my bf after Sears Holdings Corp had a mass lay-off. I’m not upset by it though. I embraced the change, and kept it moving. I packed up my apartment and moved all my stuff within a month. Ever since then, I’ve been hitting the job applications hard. Well, actually, I was applying to jobs even way before Sears bankruptcy. I will say, I’m surprised by how hard it is to break into fashion job market here. I thought with it being more companies, more opportunities, right? Not the case. It’s very much inundated with plenty of designers who could do the same job as the next person. I realized you really need to make yourself stand out, but also network, network, network. I had to break out my shell, and learn to connect with strangers, contrive somewhat organic conversations in the most awkward situations. I do believe networking helps to a certain extent, but the rest is plain luck and timing. I’m still hopeful, and still doing whatever I can to update my resume, portfolio, and skills. I keep in contact with a lot of agencies, and am fortunate to have recruiters who don’t go “ghost” on you. In the meantime, I’ve been enjoying doing background work as a side hustle. I’ve met a lot of cool people, and shoot, you never know if this could be your real destiny? A big time actress! lol
I’ll post updates as things progress out here, but for now…byeeeeeeee.
